Green Velvet Cake with Cereal Milk Whipped Frosting
My latest addition to the Snacking Cake series with a St. Patrick’s Day spin!
My family always has red velvet cake for the holidays towards the end of the year, so I was looking forward to making this for St. Patrick’s Day! The taste is exactly the same as a red velvet cake, except we’re using green food coloring here.
Equipment
Bowls
9-inch cake pan
Ingredients
Cake
1 1/4 cups (156g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1/2 (120ml) vegetable oil
1/2 cup (120ml) buttermilk, room temperature
1 large egg, room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tablespoon green food coloring
Cereal Milk Frosting
I used the Lily P. Crumbs Cereal Milk frosting, which you can find here!
Method
Make the cake
Preheat your oven to 350 F and prepare your 9-inch cake pan.
Add the sugar, egg, and vegetable oil to a bowl. Using a whisk, hand mixer, or stand mixer, mix together until pale.
Add buttermilk, white vinegar, and vanilla and continue mixing.
Next, add the green food coloring and combine.
In a separate bowl add your flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder and mix fully.
Combine your dry ingredients into your wet and mix until just combined.
Add your cake batter to your prepared pan and bake for about 22-28 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.
Make the frosting
Follow the instructions from here.
Assemble
Once cooled, remove cake from the cake pan and add to a plate.
Take your frosting and add to the top of your cake.
Add Lucky Charm marshmallows to the top of the cake.
Enjoy!
Such a fun cake!
YUM! I love the Lucky Charms garnish too- so fun!
